I have applied acrylic nails to my client, however they are lifting and popping off after a couple of days, why is this?

The lifting of acrylic nails is mostly due to the fact that the natural nail has not been prepared correctly. The lifting is hugely down to not applying primer to the natural nail. Make sure you apply a good primer to the nail before applying the acrylic, this will positively affect the duration of the acrylic.

How can I make sure I am creating a good acrylic bead?

Creating a good acrylic bead is a skill, and the only way you will learn this skill is practise, practise and more practise. To create a good acrylic bead you will need a clean neat acrylic brush, acrylic powder, monomer in a trinket dish and a generous amount of kitchen roll. You want to make sure the brush is dipped fully into the monomer, slightly dabbed onto the kitchen roll and lightly dipped into the acrylic. Picking up a good bead will then show you the bead nice and smooth with no excess acrylic powder still present, when applying this bead to the nail it needs to be just slightly runny in consistency however manageable and mouldable.

What should I avoid with acrylic nails?

You should avoid products with acetone because it will cause your acrylic nails to deteriorate. Acetone will also leave pits and make your nails soft. Aside from acetone, avoid anything that has the potential of damaging the acrylic.

Can I apply UV gel polish on top of acrylic nails?

The answer to this is ABSOLUTELY. Uv gel polish will have no effect on the acrylic. Uv gel polish is a harder, more wearing nail polish so to offer this to your clients after an acrylic set is actually more luxurious to offer instead of normal standard polish.

Which is the best way to clean my acrylic brushes after a set?

  1. Fill a shallow dish with some monomer nail liquid
  2. Leave your brushes to soak – it might take anywhere from 2 hours to overnight, depending on how stubborn the acrylic is
  3. Gently rinse the bristles with warm water
  4. Lie your brushes horizontally on a towel and allow them to completely air dry
  5. Once dry, give them another soak in some fresh monomer for a further 2 hours
  6. Again, lie them flat on a towel and allow the monomer to dry naturally
